Drive to Dambulla, a town located in the cultural triangle and where the Golden Cave Temple is found. Visit the temple that has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and experience the deep history and culture through the paintings inside the caves. Inside the caves there are well preserved Buddha Statues that are very majestic and hold a lot of significance. It is a very sacred religious site for the Buddhists in the country.

Explore the Sigiriya Rock Fortress – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is one of the country’s iconic landmarks. The rock is renowned for its frescoes that were painted in the 5th century. Once you reach the summit you will see the ruins of King Kashyapa’s Palace. As an optional excursion, you can take a village tour to experience Sri Lanka’s rural life, witnessing and interacting with local farmers hard at work as you ride a bullock cart and enjoy a scenic catamaran ride across a lake ending with a typical local meal in a village home.

Early morning after breakfast drive to the port city of Trincomalee that is surrounded by spectacular long white beaches on the East Coast. Visit Fort Fredrick, a landmark that was built by the Dutch in the 17th century and within its complex find the historical Koneswaram Temple. The temple is located on top of the Swami rock which is a peninsula surrounded by the sea. Visit the Lover’s Leap which is close proximity to the Koneswaram Temple and where two heartbroken lovers are said to have leapt off this cliff. Relax at the beach in the evening. Spend the day in Trincomalee at leisure with optional excursions to choose to plan your day. We do highly recommend you to visit Pigeon Island, one of Sri Lanka’s maritime national parks and known to be an exciting place for diving and snorkelling. Swim underwater and see colourful coral reefs and marine species especially turtles. Trincomalee has been recognized to be one of the places for whale watching (March-April) and dolphin watching (May-October) in Sri Lanka, it is a fun experience for anyone adventurous. After breakfast drive to Kandy, a historical town in the central highlands in the country. Take a tour around the city and stroll along the glistening Kandy Lake, then visit the gem museum and the marketplace. In the evening watch a vibrant cultural show performed by traditional Kandyan dancers and troupes, with their ornate dance costumes. Check into your hotel and relax. Overnight stay in Kandy.

Spend the day in Kandy at your leisure to relax and take it easy – or you can choose from several optional excursions to plan your own program by visiting our page, Things to do in Kandy. Such excursions that we do recommend are the National Museum where you could witness historical exhibits representing the Kandyan and Post British Colonial Era, the Royal Botanical Gardens that is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna and one of the major tourist attractions in Kandy; or you can visit a tea plantation and factory, learning the art of plucking tea leaves and process of production from the leaf into the brewed cup of tea. Tea is one of the main exports and a representation of the island. Overnight stay in Kandy.
