Have us pick you up at the Bandaranaike International Airport or any hotel or address of your choice from Colombo 01 -15 or Negombo. Check in to a hotel on Negombo beach for some sun and sand before commencing your trip.

Drive to Sigiriya, in the heart of Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle. Here you will find one of the most dramatic sights of Sri Lanka, the Sigiriya Rock Fortress also known as the Lion Rock and the amazing ruins of King Kassapa’s palace found atop this 200 meter granite rock. The fortress complex palace ruins, ancient frescos and scriptures surrounded by a widespread network of fortifications, enormous gardens, ponds, canals and fountains. Later, take Jeep Safari to the Minneriya or Kaudulla National Parks to capture large herds of wild elephant in evening light.

Today, take a medium-easy hike of the Pidurangala rock early in the morning. Pidurangala is best tackled at Sunrise and the 360 degree views are spectacular. Once you reach the top, you’ll see the best view of the Lion Rock, because the two rocks coexist directly across from one another; Pidurangala being slightly shorter. Drive to Kandy, the hill capital of Sri Lanka were you will wait at leisure to take the scenic Kandy to Ella train the next morning. We recommend taking a casual stroll along the Kandy Lake and marketplace and visiting the iconic Temple of the tooth relic. If you are not a fan of crowds, take an easy hike up to the Bahirawakanda temple, also knowns as the gnome mountain to find the magnificently large white statue of the Buddha that can be seen from the entirety of Kandy city. Take the Kandy to Ella train-ride, which is considered to be one of the most scenic train journeys in the world. As you ascend the hill country, enjoy lush green tea estates, age-old tunnels, farming fields, mountains, waterfalls, villages and various forms of forestlands throughout your journey. You may or may not have a seat and will generally spend most of your time sandwiched between locals, but we daresay the experience is worth it! Ella, is a gorgeous little mountainous town with a hip culture offering some jaw-dropping views.

After breakfast, drive to the glorious Nine-arches-bridge which is a very picturesque spot and an architectural marvel from the colonial era spanning 91 meters at a height of 24 meters. A favourite spot for drone photography, the regular views depend on your approach path. The easiest approach is to trek from the Ella train station along the rail track until you reach the bridge. However the more beautiful views from a distance or from the base of the bridge require medium level hiking. Your guide will provide you more information and help you choose your approach. Your next stop is Diyaluma, the 220-meter 2nd tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. A 2-hour hike to the upper Diyaluma will take you to a heavenly picture-perfect location with natural pools located at the top of the fall. Here you will find a series of natural infinity pools where you can take a swim, and even jump from one pool into a lower leveled pool.

We would recommend not missing out on the following spots while in Mirissa but suggest you explore these at your own time and pace. Go beach hopping and remember to spend some time at the pristine, private, and beautiful, Secret Beach in Mirissa, for two coves of clear blue water and low-hanging palm trees. The Coconut tree hill is another popular picturesque spot, for sun rises and sun sets. Wander around the quaint little cafes and bars along Mirissa beach and keep your eyes peeled for some beautiful graffiti murals of peacocks.

If surf is your calling the surf of Mirissa is perfect for beginners. More advanced surfers may want to make the most of the free mileage we have provided you to head towards the Weligama surf or the less touristic Hiriketiya beach.

Mirissa is also the best place in Sri Lanka for whale and dolphin watching (Season: October to April).

Using your free mileage to spend a day heading up to Unawatuna beach for a different vibe. Stop at Dalawella beach to try the highly instafamous beach rope swing. Head up to the famous Dutch Fort of Galle and take a walking tour of its cobble-stoned streets for shopping, dining and home-made gelato; not forgetting to walk along the rampart for some great views until you reach the iconic lighthouse.
