Overview

The day tour will start off with a visit to the Kandy view point, where you will drive up a hill situated close to the Kandy Lake where you can enjoy the spectacular views of the lake and surrounding town.
The Kandy Lake was artificially constructed by the last king of Kandy – King Sri Wickrama Rajasingha. You can walk around the lake and even take a boat ride across the lake, a popular excursion for tourists and locals.
Walk through the botanical gardens in Peradeniya, which is home to over 4000 species of plants that’s mostly the orchid flower, medicinal plants and palm trees. You can take pictures of the gardens and all the different types of flowers you will see.
Visit a tea factory in Kandy that processes tea leaves that make the famous, Ceylon tea. After the British converted a vast majority of land into tea plantations, tea is now one of the key export commodities of the country. After lunch you will be taken on city tour of Kandy which includes shopping and a visit to the gem museum. The busy town of Kandy is always full of people running around carrying out their everyday errands. There is quite a lot to see at the market – ranging from herbs, spices and tea, it’s all here. You can purchase other items for souvenirs which include wooden sculptures, batiks and clothes, too.
Next on the agenda – Gems. Sri Lanka is known for being the ‘Isle of Gems’ and Kandy is one of the main areas where a large amount of gems are available in retail shops. There is quite an impressive collection of gems that have been cut and polished to perfection. There are a lot of popular gems that are available – Cat’s Eyes, Rubies, Star Rubies, Alexandrite and Sapphires.
In the evening visit to the Temple of Tooth which has been revered a must see for its significance in being the most valued and sacred place for the Buddhists in the entire country since it houses the tooth relic of Lord Buddha, enshrined in a golden casket. It is situated within the Royal Palace Complex which is a major attraction of beauty. Make the offering of flowers while enjoying the peace, the scent of incense and the sounds of chanting with the hundreds of devotees visiting the temple with the plate of flowers and lighting of oil lamps.
Finally you will witness a cultural show that features traditional Kandyan dancing that represents the heritage and history of Sri Lanka. It is the national dance of the country – and it is indeed a spectacular sight.
