Colombo Lotus Tower

Dominating the ever-changing skyline of Colombo, the Colombo Lotus Tower is 1150 feet tall. Upon completion, it will be the ‘tallest self-supported structure in South Asia.’ The design and structure is influenced by the lotus flower, which symbolises purity in Sri Lanka’s culture. It will be used for communications, leisure and observation purposes.

Overview

The Colombo Lotus Tower is 350 meters (1150 feet) dominates the skyline of Colombo. Construction of the Lotus Tower commenced in 2012. It is the ‘tallest self-supported structure in South Asia’. It will also become the world’s 19th tallest tower and will be 24 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This tower will be used for communications, leisure and observation purposes. As the name suggests, the design of this tower and structure is influenced by the lotus flower, which symbolizes purity in the Sri Lankan culture. The construction of the Colombo Lotus Tower is funded by Chinese EXIM bank.

The first and second floors of the Lotus Tower will be used for TV and radio broadcasting. Approximately 50 television broadcasters, 50 radio broadcasters and 20 telecommunication providers can be accommodated in this tower. This tower will also feature two conference/banquet halls in two separate floors and will be able to accommodate up to 450 persons each. In addition there will be VIP rooms and special observation areas. The revolving restaurant on the topmost floor will undoubtedly be the main attraction. This revolving restaurant is said to complete one round in 90 minutes. There will be restaurants, food courts and supermarkets in this tower alongside luxury hotel rooms and large ballrooms.
