Overview

The Tangalle beach is the ideal spot to enjoy a perfect beach getaway with sun and sand. The months from November to April are the best months to enjoy its waters, since the beach is at its best during this time. The secluded nature of the beach offers you the possibility to lie down and enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves rushing in towards the shore. With the sandy beach stretching out for an unending distance, visitors can enjoy a stroll along these sandy shores fringed with palm trees and enjoy a stunning and breathtaking view of the sunrise and sunset. The currents and the waves can be quite rough at times; therefore it is not advisable to go swimming in this beach.
The Goyambokka and Pallikaduwa bays are located to the west while the Medaketiya and Medilla bays are located to the north. While many beaches in Tangalle have been deemed unfit for swimming, the Parewella natural swimming area which is itself a part of the Tangalle beach is suitable for swimming since the water here is not as deep and the waves are not rough or considerably strong like the waves in the ocean. It is located towards the southern end of Tangalle. Tangalle is the ideal place to visit if you seek silence and solitude away from hordes of travellers at other popular beach resorts.
The beaches at Tangalle have a diverse range of accommodation options for the budget traveller and the luxury holidaymaker.
Maximise your adventure during your stay at Tangalle by exploring many attractions of interest such as the Mulkirigala Raja Maha Viharaya, an ancient religious and significant Buddhist site where you can witness Buddha statues, caves and manuscripts; watch turtles coming on shore to lay eggs at Rekawa, a thrilling yet unforgettable experience; if you are a bird lover then a visit to Sri Lanka’s oldest and vital bird sanctuaries at Kalametiya bird sanctuary is a must do since you can witness a plethora of bird species among mangroves and lagoons; all of these would give a well rounded experience of a beach escape.
