Buduruwayaya Archaeological Site

Overview

The most famous attraction within the site which is visited by many visitors is the reclining Buddha statue. This enormous carving is done on a type of rock called the ‘Chandrakanthi Pasana Gala’ which belongs to a variety of limestone while the statue also holds great similarity to the features found in the famous reclining Buddha statue of the Polonnaruwa Gal Viharaya.
Among the other ruins situated at the park, another prominent site is the ruins of what is assumed to be a Dagaba from the ancient times. Surrounding this Dagaba are some other important relics such as a guard-stone, moon-stone and some emerging stone pillars which will take you back in time to the forgotten past. These relics such as the moon-stone contains some magnificent carvings which will keep you wondering about the skills and technology used by the creators of these mind-blowing pieces.
At the same time, the serene environment around this great archaeological site will take your soul away for awhile as it is as calm as nature could ever be.
