This small coastal town of Unawatuna; filled with shops, restaurants, hotels, guesthouses and chic cafes, has gained prominence for its beach, corals and rich biodiversity. The semicircular stretch of coast with palm trees and the serene atmosphere makes Unawatuna the perfect place for swimming and relaxing. The atmosphere in Unawatuna is buoyant; however there aren’t that many late night raves here. A wide variety of turtles and fish have been spotted in Unawatuna along with many species of native birds such as Egrets, Herons, Kingfishers, the Asian Palm Swift, the White Breasted Waterhen, the Black Bittern, and Sandpipers. Unawatuna is a perfect spot for diving with its corals and shipwrecks nearby. Another exhilarating activity one can engage in while in Unawatuna is snorkeling.
