Ramboda Falls

Ramboda Ella Falls, a stunning waterfall which is 358 ft high, is the 11th highest waterfall in the country. It is located in the Pussellawa region at Ramboda Pass.

Overview

Ramboda Ella Falls is a stunning waterfall that is 358 feet high – the 11th highest waterfall in the country, and 729th in the world. It is located in the Pussellawa region just by the Ramboda Bridge after the Ramboda Tunnel when travelling from Peradeniya, Kandy.

The Ramboda Ella Falls are formed by the Panna Oya River which is a tributary of the Kothmale Oya. Ramboda Ella consists of three divisions which are carved into the face of the cliff of a rock which is beautiful to see. The scenery around the waterfall is eye catching with lush greenery and tea plantations.

From the A5 highway just above the bridge, you can get a great view of the middle section of the falls. From the main road, closer to the entrance of the tunnel, you can get a side view of the bottom section of the falls. Just before the Ramboda bridge, there is a pathway which leads to a lookout point which gives a spectacular view of the most impressive part of the waterfall. This walk can be rather tedious over rocks and steep slopes but it is well worth the climb once you reach the lookout point. To get a better view of the lower section, a short walk to reach the bottom of  waterfall known as the, ‘Ramboda Basin’, it is an ideal place for a quick dip as there is a naturally formed pool at the bottom.
