Overview

Sail along to Delft island, the once isolated and forgotten land of the north and explore the unmarked waters of the Palk Strait that lies between India and Sri Lanka, where you would you stumble on many pieces of history and stunning nature making your journey an unforgettable expedition. This is a four day cruise that includes the following experiences.

 

Reach Kurikkaduvan Jetty which is 40 minutes away from Jaffna towards the west by 10 am for departure to Kakaraithivu. It is a small island which is a paradise for birds since it is home for migratory species of water birds and fishermen who thrive on fishing as their income. Whilst you sail, you will be served with lunch before you get off board to visit the island and indulge in some swimming and snorkeling if you wish. Dinner will be served on board upon anchoring in close proximity to Kakaraithivu.

 

On the next day early morning upon sunrise, the journey continues with breakfast served onboard. You will be sailing towards Talaimanar where you would visit the mythical Adam’s Bridge, Mannar Island and have a typical local lunch in a restaurant; followed by a visit to a fishing hamlet in the afternoon where you would encounter many fishermen at work and interact with them learning the fishing culture of Sri Lanka. Thereafter, you will return to the boat in the evening whilst encountering beautiful sunsets with dinner served on board.

 

The boat will depart for Delft Island early in the morning the next day with breakfast served on board. Along this cruise, you might be lucky at spotting some dolphins. Upon reaching Delft, a local guide will illustrate information about this unique island pertaining to its history of colonial times, walls of coral and of course the wild horses that still roam free on the open plains. You will have a local lunch served with typical Sri Lankan seafood. The coast off Delft has excellent waters for swimming where one could enjoy a quick dip an return for dinner to the boat.

 

On your last day, a voluntary excursion to Nainativu Island is offered after an early breakfast. This is where you could visit the Nagadeepa and Nagapooshani Amman Temple. Thereafter, you will return to your boat to return to Kurikkaduvan jetty at Jaffna for disembarkation at 1pm.
