Point Pedro

Overview

Point Pedro lies near the most northerly point of the island facing Bay of Bengal. The name of the place is derived from the Portuguese Punta das Pedras which means Stony or Rocky Point. The lighthouse is on the east side of the town. This point is marked by a concrete board on the edge of a coral with a Sri Lankan Flag painted on it. This site is easily reachable by any vehicle along the road which goes along the beach. A small army camp lies on the small stretch of beach. You can stop your vehicle here and walk up to this point over waves and coral reef.
